iON Acquires PowerChalk.com, forms Software Division
iON Names Chaz Henry CTO and Head of New iON Software Division
Announces Turnkey Video Analysis Solution Integrating iON The Game Sports Motion-Analysis Camera and PowerChalk Telestrator Software
London, 22nd January, 2014 – iON, the company that bought Shoot/Share™ Wi-Fi connectivity to point-of-view (POV) cameras, has acquired PowerChalk LLC, a privately-held company whose unique, web-based analysis software facilitates teaching and sharing in motion sports, such as golf, tennis and baseball. As part of the acquisition, PowerChalk CEO Chaz Henry has been named CTO of iON America. Chaz will head the company’s new software division, overseeing software development and integration for the growing line of iON cameras.
iON will immediately begin bundling its iON The Game™ wireless motion-analysis camera with the PowerChalk™ online service, creating the industry’s first camera-software solution that includes a coaching marketplace. The PowerChalk service enables users—both teaching pros and students—to upload, voiceover and annotate (“chalk talk”) their videos. The student can easily become the teacher as individuals can effectively coach themselves through watching replays of their footage.
“We are thrilled that Chaz and his team are now part of iON,” said Giovanni Tomaselli, CEO, iON America. “PowerChalk’s cloud-based platform complements our entire camera lineup. We’ve already begun to add features that only an integrated team can deliver.”
With PowerChalk and iON The Game, a teaching pro can shoot, upload, analyse and share video insights immediately. The ability for ‘side-by-side’ analysis next to an elite sportsperson has also been made possible through the unique software provided by PowerChalk.
PowerChalk is located in the Research Triangle of North Carolina and has a large user base of amateur coaches and players. The company also hosts private video analysis servers for professional baseball teams and sports organisations.
“Our pro team clients have taught us that it’s not just about analysing motion; it’s about communicating the insights,” Chaz said. “iON’s approach to sharing and their willingness to extend their designs is what compelled us to team up. Together, we’ve already started to build a system to shoot, share, analyse and improve.”
Moving forward, Chaz and the iON Software Division will develop a new line of software designed for use with iON cameras.
