So who are you, what’s your age and where are you from?

I’m Tyler Jay Harding, a Ski Slopestyle rider, 17 years old from Halifax, West Yorkshire in England!

Who are your sponsors?

iON Cameras, Oakley, Salomon Freeski, Bawbags Underwear, Reactiv Media, Sno!zone, Reeves, OnePiece

Favorite places and parks?

No doubt the best place I’ve been was last year going to Sierra Nevada for the World Cup in the middle of March. I was skiing in a T-shirt, which was the best feeling possible! The town is beautiful and rural and I definitely want to go back there again! The best park I’ have ridden is either Saas Fee or Mayrhofen. Breckenridge in Colorado is amazing but the long lift laps can get on my nerves, so a few scattered sick rails, a 3 jump pro line and a fast lift is all I need. So i guess it is the first two European places that i mentioned that are best for me!

What have you been up to this Winter?

This winter has been pretty hectic! The whole last year has just consisted of me trying to qualify for the Olympics. I was hitting all of the spots on the World Cup tour trying to win a place on Team GB. For the start of the winter I was in Breckenridge trying to learn new tricks. After Breck I had the last World Cup in Gstaad to try get into the top 30 in the World Cup Ranking. This would earn my spot in the Olympics but unfortunately it didn’t pay off.  Now I’m back on it, skiing as much as I can and training for 2018 and to raise my profile for the years to come!

So you have been using iON Cameras this winter?

Yes, as soon as I got my iON Air Pro 3, I was off to America and was really excited to start filming with it! I had a GoPro before but it was old and never great so was stoked to get my hands on the Air Pro 3!  I’d heard this was a really good quality camera and wasn’t disappointed!  I have it in my pocket the whole time and use it at every opportunity. I have never used a camera that is so good, quick and easy to use. All of a sudden I had tons of footage to go through but i was able to produce a high quality edit which has made my life a lot easier.

So do you think action cameras are an important for the progressive freeskier?

Well obviously the modern day skier needs to get his or her name out there. The best way to do this is by creating video and photo content and getting it out there!  Many  websites have skiers uploading their edits, other skiers and potential sponsors can keep an eye on your progression and social following. With this in mind, iON Cameras have become an essential tool for my trade.tool

Your thoughts on the Olympics?

The Olympics was amazing, I couldn’t believe it!  I was in awe at the Slopestyle and Halfpipe competitions and how well Team GB did!  The level in Slopestyle was higher than anyone could have expected. The course looked insane which made for a super sick event. It was also pretty dope seeing all my friends perform at the biggest competition in the world especially as they all did so well. I cannot wait for my chance in 2018.

How has the Olympics changed the Freeskiing?

The Olympics has done amazing things for freestyle. After the Olympic events everyone was raving about Freeskiing and Snowboarding. Because this new is in the Olympics people seem to perk up, its such a different, exciting sport everyone was hyping about all the GB riders and we had everyone behind us. I wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t one of the most watched events at the Olympics. Just seeing my friends twitter followers before and after proves a point (haha!) But it can only be good for us, hopefully it will bring more funding and publicity in which I feel we deserve. Team GB did put on a really good Slopestyle display in its debut Olympic event and we even came home with a medal!
